Anniversary of Invasion of Sicily

July 10 is the anniversary of the 1943 allied invasion of Sicily during World War II. It was known as Operation Husky and represented the beginning of the assault on Italy. Many historians agree with General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s assessment that this represented, “the first page in the liberation of the European Continent.”
